It’s Great Horned Owl breeding season. If you see one, look for a mate nearby. Soon enough, we’ll have adorable owlets on the way.

Usually, I focus on the wildlife subject when shooting photos along the river, minimizing the evidence of flood damage that would be seen in a wider view. But this little egret, happily hunting in the small pools of water among the scarred landscape, made me rethink things. Maybe it’s important to occasionally share the big picture too.

A little more than three weeks after spotting the Egyptian goslings, a major glow-up has taken place. No longer a combination of cute and nightmarish, they just adorable now.

A Great Egret befriends (we hope) a group of Northern Pintail ducks in the Guadalupe River in Kerrville, living out her Mother Goose dreams (perhaps believing she’s an ugly duckling?).
